The story begins with Sentaro, an ex convict who dreams of being a writer, but rarely ever writes. It’s heartwarming without being cheesy, inspiring without being preachy and is a stunning exploration of friendship and redemption in a society that has been unforgiving to those who are a part of it. Durian Sukegawa’s Sweet Bean Paste is without a doubt, one of the best books I’ve read this year. ![]()
